EBOLA VACCINE GENERATES IMMUNE RESPONSE: A RAY OF HOPE IN FIGHT AGAINST THE VIRUS

Recently in one of the world’s leading university Oxford, it was seen that vaccine had an acceptable range of safety profile along with an effective immune response. Trial was done on 60 healthy volunteers.

Professor Adrian Hill at Oxford, the head in-charge of the trial said, “ The Ebola vaccine was well tolerated. Its safety profile is pretty much as we had hoped”.

This has raised new expectations and first dose to be used in West Africa are delivered in large scale to Liberia by Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK) who has co-developed the vaccine along with US National Institute of Health. When trial was done on healthy individuals it showed an acceptable range of safety profile and immune system was seen for 28 days after the dosage.

Furthermore, Professor Hill explained that only mild symptoms were seen such as reddening at the injection site or pain that lasted for maximum 2 days.

According to WHO report, the deadly Ebola has killed almost 8000 people so far. Hence, scientists have also begun to test the candidate’s booster vaccine against the same.
